Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
Some sort of arrow\notification at the bottom of the chat window notifying you that you are scrolled up and there are new messages below. Clicking it should bring you down to the current message.
